Forgive me- this is a bit of back blogging!

 It was about this time last year when we started talking about taking a trip. Jonathan was finally feeling like himself after his knee surgery, and I felt like after all we had been through we deserved a trip. It started as a simple long weekend getaway to the Smokies, but then we started talking about other possibilities. My Brother in Law had recently started calling NYC home, and while my husband had visited New York many times with school, I had never been. Also, many family members had been able to visit Nicholas while he was working on cruises, but we never made it. We decided this should be our trip! We ended up planning 4 days and 3 nights to see the sights and visit with Nicholas in the Big Apple in early December.

Here's a quick summary of what we did!


We went to see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall, and since my brother in law went to college with 2 of the Rockettes we got a little backstage tour.

We checked out Rockefeller Center and the tree. So many people!

We won the lottery to see the Newsies! We got second row seats, and the show was fabulous! This was probably my favorite thing, and we have zero pictures. Whoop, whoop- fail on our part!

We went on the cruise around Liberty island. I really wanted to go up in the Statue of Liberty, but it was closed due to damages from Sandy. The cruise was neat though because we also got to go under the Brooklyn Bridge too.

We went to the 9/11 memorial site and saw the Freedom tower under construction.

We got to go on a REAL taxi cab ride. It made me want to hurl! (Of course the morning sickness I was experiencing at the time didn't help that!)

We ate lots! We ate some really awesome cookies at Smacker's. We had a late night milkshake and burger from Shake Shack. This was my favorite! And sweet Nicholas brought us cupcakes from Magnolia's. We also had real NY pizza. So yummy!

We went to Macy's and rode the wooden escalators.

We visited Barnard College where my sorority was founded.

We stayed at an old hotel near 42nd street! It was old and had an art deco lobby, and I loved it! Apparently mostly Europeans stay there, so several people thought we were European. I thought that was sort of neat.

We made it through the whole trip without Nicholas ever suspecting I was prego. It was sort of funny. Anytime we had to slow down a bit, we just blamed it on Jonathan's recovery. Everytime we passed a hot dog vendor- which are on every street corner- it made me gag! I actually almost tossed my cookies in the middle of Times Square once, but I managed not to. We were really surprised we managed to keep our little secret the whole trip!

It is a really big city, and 4 days just wash't enough to do it all. We didn't make it to Central Park, to the Empire State Building, or to the ritzy side of town, but we sort of planned it that way. We had a list of things we wanted to do. We got as much done as we could, and the rest will have to wait until the next time! Nicholas was a fabulous tour guide, and the trip was exactly what we needed after Jonathan's recovery and before baby arrived.
